Summer at the Dmytro Yevdokymov Sumy Regional Academic Lyceum continues to gain momentum!
As part of the international project “Sumy Summer Camp 2026,” lyceum students have once again immersed themselves in an English-language drive. This time, the meeting focused on the controversial and highly relevant topic of “Fast Food Culture.” Together with native speaker Gabrielle and faculty members from the Department of Foreign Languages Associate Professors M.M. Chykalova (PhD) and I.L. Humeniuk (PhD) students "broke down fast food culture to the molecular level". The session (June 9) was rich and interactive: the campers mastered new vocabulary to feel confident in an English-speaking environment and examined how marketers influence our "fast food" choices. The most spirited part was a discussion based on real-life scenarios, where everyone could voice their opinion: is fast food an inevitable evil of modern times, or a convenient tool for a fast-paced life?
At another session (June 11), students, alongside Gabi and the project instructors, explored the deeply philosophical and important topic “Defining Your Own Winning.” The central issue of the meeting challenged every participant to reflect: “If society didn’t dictate what success was, how would you define it for yourself?” This was more than just an English lesson; it was a genuine attempt to “break patterns” and look within at their own dreams and goals.
Throughout the meeting, the lyceum students practiced thematic vocabulary related to a successful life and personal development. This helped them overcome the language barrier and articulate complex concepts regarding life values in English. A particularly engaging discussion focused on whether success is defined solely by career and wealth, or if it is primarily about inner harmony and staying true to one’s ideals.
This week, the participants of the summer language camp received a powerful boost of motivation, ensuring their summer holidays are anything but boring!
